FAQ

E-Waste

> What type of electronics are considered e-waste?

While the broad definition of e-waste includes just about anything that has a power source (most any electrical or electronic equipment), e-waste generally includes functioning as well as non-functioning equipment discarded by consumers and organizations. We would prefer to accept fully or partially functional computers, laptops, tablets, servers, mobile phones -- electronic devices that are used in software and hardware development.

> If I donate my old functioning computer, what will you do with it?

We will ensure that all your data is securely removed. We will test and refurbish your donation either as one fully functioning device, or reuse parts to enhance other computers or devices. Refurbished computers will then be made available to students in need.

> What makes FWD:Dynamics different from a recycling center?

We don't actually recycle e-waste into disassembled parts and material. We refurbish, we reuse, we breathe new life into older electronics and devices that can be upgraded. By reusing and repurposing these devices for continued use, we keep them out of landfills.

Hiring

> How or when can I get an interview?

We will be initiating the interview process in Summer 2025. Currently, we are collecting submissions of interest. Make sure you share with us your information

> I submitted my information, but where do I submit my resume?

We may request your resume in the future after we review your submission.

> What job positions do you have available for students?

We will have various roles for students. We will be updating our website soon with available positions.

> What should I be expecting if I got hired?

We will hire you even if you have no experience in the role you applied for. Part of our mission is to give you that real world experience. You will learn on the job, with your peers and with industry experts.

> Are the positions offered only related to STEM?

STEM will account for a good number of the available roles. However, we will also need staff members to handle business, administration and communication needs. The only requirement is that you are a current student with a desire for growth and advancement.

> If I'm not a college student, can I still sign up?

You can sign up as a volunteer or as a subject matter expert (SME). As a SME, we will consider some compensation for sharing your knowledge with the students. We will prioritize hiring of current students who have not yet graduated.

> I'm an Extended College student, would I still be able to be hired?

Yes

> I don't want to be hired but rather volunteer, can I do that?

Yes. Do you have knowledge and skills to share? We would love to have you help us.

> Is FWD:Dynamics just for people acquiring a higher education (AS, BS, MS, etc)?

Primarily yes. But, if you are an ambitious, high-achieving student enrolled at CTEC/ROC or similar program or institution, we may be able to consider your involvement. Let us know and make sure you share with us your information

> I'm a student from abroad, can I sign up?

There may be some additional challenges with your immigration status. Make sure you let us know of your status and we may be able to make some arrangements that allow you to legally participate and benefit from our programs.

>How would being hired benefit me as a student?

You would get an immediate jumpstart on your chosen career. You get to add various bullet points on your resume before you even graduate. You will have real world experience learning about hardware, software, project management, time management, and soft skills such as communication. It's like you're in the real world while you're still in school, because, well, you will be in the "real world" working a real job!

> I want to help in some way or form but cannot get hired. Can I volunteer?

We will accept volunteers in various roles. These positions will be made available as we launch our full operations

> Is this an internship?

You can think of it as internship, but it is a job. More importantly, your time with us will reflect very positively on your resume as you accumulate real world experience that you can carry with you immediately after graduation.

> What happens after I graduate and complete my undergrad?

If you plan on pursuing post-graduate education, you may still be eligible to work with us. If your desire is to start your career having achieved your degree, you will then be ineligible to continue working with us. Our job was to help you get started in your career -- you won't need us then!

> I only have short 2-4 hour gaps between classes, can I work part time during those times?

Yes. Just make sure you manage your time commitments well between your work and your classes.

> Can I get a full-time position?

As long as you are a verified student, and you are able to manage the responsibilities of a student as well as full time employment, you can be considered for a role. However, our expectation is that most students working with us will be part time.

> I don't plan on taking summer classes. Can I work more hours?

You can work more hours as long as it makes sense for the company's resources and projects at the time.

> I don't plan on taking summer classes. Will I get terminated for not being enrolled in any classes?

No, as long as you will maintain student status in the upcoming terms

> Can I take a semester or quarter off to work more hours with you?

No, you will need to be enrolled as a student in a current quarter or semester. You may work during summer as long as you will be enrolled in the upcoming term.

> When I get hired, can I work remotely?

Unlikely. We believe you will get the most benefit and the most learning by being onsite with peers and colleagues.
